Pan Shuang, Director-general of Liaoning Department of Commerce met with the delegation led by H.E. Oliver Wonekha, Uganda's Ambassador to China on December 13, 2024. The two sides had discussions and exchanges on further strengthening the economic and trade cooperation between Liaoning and Uganda.
Director-general Pan Shuang firstly extended a warm welcome to Ambassador H.E. Oliver Wonekha during her visit. Pan Shuang stated that Liaoning is an important industrial base in China, boasting obvious geographical advantages, rich natural resources, a solid industrial foundation and a favorable development environment. Uganda is known as the "Pearl of Africa". In recent years, Uganda’s economic and trade cooperation with Liaoning has been deepening continuously. Notably, the Uganda Liaoshen Industrial Park invested and built by Zhang's Group has attracted manufacturing enterprises such as auto parts, household appliances, building materials, and agricultural product processing to settle in the Park. While achieving economic benefits, the Park has also created a large number of job opportunities for the local communities and increased local residents’ income. Pan Shuang also stated that in the future, Liaoning will continue to promote economic and trade cooperation with Uganda in such fields as mining, manufacturing, infrastructure construction, tourism and culture, and will create new growth points in such areas as green economy, service trade and new energy. It is hoped that the communication and contact with Uganda’s Embassy in China can be further strengthened. It is expected that the two sides can jointly hold investment promotion and economic and trade project matchmaking activities in 2025. Uganda’s Embassy is welcome to organize representatives from the Ugandan government and enterprises to conduct in-depth visits to Liaoning and inspect Liaoning’s enterprises. Ambassador H.E. Oliver Wonekha expressed her gratitude for the warm reception by the Liaoning Department of Commerce. She stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uganda in 1962, the two countries have maintained friendly relations. And China has had provided support to Uganda in many aspects. Uganda is rich in agricultural, tourism and mineral resources and needs support from more Chinese enterprises to assist Uganda in fostering the economic development in greater depth. Although this is her first time to visit Liaoning, she has already felt the good development momentum of Liaoning and seen its beautiful environment. It is hoped that the cooperation between Liaoning and Uganda will continue to deepen in the future. More Liaoning enterprises will invest and start businesses in Uganda to contribute to the better development of the relations between the two countries.
